Creating a visually appealing website is crucial for user engagement, and the right combination of images, graphics, and videos can significantly enhance the overall user experience. This guide from Creatify Digital is here to help you navigate the process of sourcing and selecting high-quality content for your website, whether you’re doing it yourself or seeking expert advice.

Why Visual Content Matters

Visual content plays a key role in conveying your brand message effectively. When paired with written copy, images and videos help users better understand and connect with your content. However, poor-quality visuals or mismatched design elements can disrupt the user experience and detract from your brand identity.

At Creatify, we’re always available to assist you with sourcing content and offering recommendations tailored to your website’s needs. This guide is intended for those who prefer to handle the content-gathering process themselves. If you need support, don’t hesitate to reach out to us through our contact page.

Where to Find High-Quality Content

The internet is filled with content libraries offering a vast array of visuals, but the sheer volume can make the search overwhelming. On top of that, ownership rights and usage terms can be tricky to navigate. To make your search easier, we’ve compiled a list of trusted resources for sourcing free and paid content.

Creatify holds licenses for several of the paid libraries listed below, which allows us to source premium content on behalf of our clients. If you’re working with us, we can often obtain and provide assets directly for use on your website — all included in your WaaS (websites-as-a-service) subscription.

Pexels offers high-quality, royalty-free image and video content free of charge.

Envato is a large-scale media content library offering images, video, graphics and much more under a paid-for licence. Creatify clients can access this content free of charge under our licence.

Freepik is another large-scale content library offering images, video and graphics in a variety of filetypes. There are some free resources available on Freepik, however their higher-quality content is locked behind a paid subscription, which Creatify clients can access free of charge through our licence.

Unsplash is a high-quality, stock image library offering a large quantity of free-to-use resources. There are some paid-for resources on this site.

Burst is a completely free-to-use image library with over 20,000 royalty-free photos

Elevate Your Brand with Mockups

Mockups are realistic visuals that show how your digital product, branding, or promotional materials will appear in real-world settings. They can enhance your content, making it more professional and visually appealing.

Mockups typically require editing software like Photoshop. If you don’t have access to this, Creatify clients are welcome to send us the mockup file along with their content — we’re more than happy to handle the editing as part of our service. We can also help source mockups that align with your brand style and website design.

Here are some trusted platforms we regularly use to find high-quality mockups:

Freepik offer some PSD mockup files. There are some free resources available, however Creatify clients can access paid content free of charge through our subscription.

Minimal Mockups (previously Anthony Boyd) offers a smaller, but high-quality selection of mockups, for smartphones, laptops and promotional items, all free of charge.

Mockups Design is a huge mockups library, filled with a variety of items and styles, all free of charge.

The Importance of Consistency

Consistency in your visual content is essential for creating a cohesive and professional website. Whether you’re using photography, videography, or graphics, maintaining a unified style across all assets will reinforce your brand identity and help users engage with your content more effectively.

1. Colour Palette

  • Stay true to your brand’s established colour palette for a seamless experience across all pages.
  • Avoid clashing hues and aim for complementary tones.
  • Use similar background colours or tones in photography to keep pages feeling unified.
  • If you want to learn more about the use of colours in web design, you can find out more here.

2. Style & Mood

  • Keep a consistent mood across all visuals. Bright, airy photos work well for a fresh, modern brand, while darker tones can evoke luxury and premium qualities.
  • Ensure the editing style (e.g., warm or cool tones) is consistent throughout.
  • If you’re editing your content, try to use the same presets or editing adjustments across all visuals.

3. Graphics & Icons

  • Use a consistent illustration or icon style across the site — don’t mix line icons with 3D icons or flat with isometric.
  • Keep colours, line thicknesses, and shapes aligned with brand identity.
  • Ensure resolution and sizing are uniform — avoid blurry, pixelated, or mismatched elements.

Taking the Perfect Team Photos

Strong team photography is a key element in presenting your business as trustworthy, credible, and human. Whether it’s individual headshots or group shots, high-quality imagery reinforces your brand and builds a sense of professionalism across your site.

While we’re happy to assist Creatify clients with editing and retouching, the foundation of a great image starts with thoughtful preparation. Here’s what to consider when capturing team photos — whether you’re working with a professional photographer or using a smartphone.

Headshots: Creating Consistency Across Your Team

Headshots should feel cohesive — not just in composition, but in tone, background, and expression. A mismatched set of team photos can disrupt the visual harmony of your site, so attention to detail here goes a long way.

Framing & Positioning

  • Shoot from the chest or shoulders upward.
  • Keep subjects centred with minimal headroom.
  • Maintain similar camera distances to ensure uniform sizing.

Angles & Eye Line

  • Always shoot at eye level — this is the most natural and flattering perspective.
  • Avoid extreme angles or looking down/up at the subject.

Expression & Posture

  • Encourage relaxed, approachable expressions — think confident but friendly.
  • Subtle, genuine smiles are often best for professionalism.

Camera Focus & Sharpness

  • Tap to focus on the eyes — they should always be the sharpest point in the image.
  • Use portrait mode where possible, but avoid over-blurring or filters that feel artificial.

Background & Setting: Keep It Clean and Aligned

A well-chosen background is crucial — it supports your subject without competing for attention. If you’re not using a branded backdrop, opt for something neutral and minimal.

Tips:

  • Use the same or similar background across all team members.
  • Soft textures or solid colours work well (e.g., pale walls, fabric, or your brand colours).
  • For outdoor shots, choose consistent settings and avoid busy or distracting scenery.
  • If you need to shoot in different locations, aim for visual similarity — similar lighting, colour palette, and depth of field.

Lighting: The Hidden Hero of Great Photography

Lighting can make or break an image. Even lighting across the subject’s face helps create a polished, professional feel.

Ideal Conditions:

  • Natural daylight from a window (without harsh direct sun) is best.
  • Avoid mixed lighting (e.g. combining indoor lamps with daylight), which can cause unwanted colour casts.
  • Outdoors? Aim for shade or cloudy conditions — they give soft, even light without harsh shadows.

Visual Consistency Tips

To ensure your photos look polished when placed side by side on your website:

  • Keep orientation consistent — portrait format is usually best.
  • Use the same editing treatment (tone, brightness, colour correction).
  • If shooting across multiple days or locations, use a reference photo to match framing and style.

Need a Hand?

Maintaining consistency across your website — from images and video to graphics, typography, and tone — is essential to creating a professional, cohesive brand experience. When every visual element aligns in colour, style, lighting, and framing, it builds trust with your audience and reinforces your identity across every page.

Whether you’re sourcing content yourself or working with a creative team, following these best practices will help ensure your site always feels polished and on-brand.

If you’re using Creatify’s Websites as a Service (WaaS) platform, visual consistency isn’t just a nice-to-have — it’s built into the process. Our WaaS clients benefit from ongoing support with content updates, image sourcing, and design alignment, making it easier to keep your site looking sharp long after launch.

Need help sourcing visuals, refining photography, or choosing content that aligns with your design system? Get in touch with us — we’re always happy to help guide the process or take it off your hands entirely.
